For 55 years, the Department of Communications at Cal State Fullerton has provided high-quality, accessible and affordable education to students interested in careers in communications and mass media.

More than 24,000 students have graduated from the Department of Communications since 1961, and our alumni are embedded in the communications workforce of the greater Los Angeles and Orange County regions, and throughout the nation and world.

The alumni featured on this website highlight some of the best and brightest of our graduates. They have served in the top echelons of communications and mass media, including as top newspaper writers and editors, broadcasters, advertising and public relations practitioners, entertainment executives and entrepreneurs. Reading through this website, you will undoubtedly see why these accomplished alumni embody the spirit of Cal State Fullerton and what President Mildred Garcia García means when she says, “Titans Reach Higher.”

Many of these distinguished alumni found their passions while students at Cal State Fullerton. In email correspondence and conversations, many alumni have credited the faculty, classes, programs and clubs for propelling their professional successes. These alumni said they found their calling for journalism in the newsroom of the Daily Titan. They found their creativity for advertising in the American Advertising Federation (AAF) competition. They found their expertise in public relations participating in the events of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). They found their knack for event planning during COMM Week. More than one said they found their first job from the mandatory internship program. Some even found their spouse here!

Today, the Department of Communications is as strong as ever. The Department is the largest mass communications program west of the Mississippi and the sixth largest in the U.S., and we graduate more Latinos with bachelor’s degrees in communications than any other university in the country. In the last decade, CSUF has awarded more degrees in communications than any other, and the Department is a campus leader in graduation and retention rates.

Our students graduate with training in the theories and practices of ethical, effective communications, and the Department’s high-impact practices engage students with hands-on learning opportunities. Longstanding successful programs include our mandatory internship program, which places more than 800 students a year in internships across Southern California. The award-winning Daily Titan, now a multimedia news organization that includes print, web, multimedia and social media platforms, is a program that is consistently ranked nationally and was named the third best student newspaper in the country in 2017.

New programs in recent years include PRactical ADvantage Communications, a student-run advertising and public relations agency at the Irvine branch campus, and Al Día, a Spanish-language broadcast news program with supported by a budding growing partnership with Univision.

Hands-on training is integrated into the coursework through the Department. COMM Week, the week-long communications conference, celebrates its 40th anniversary next year. OC News, our broadcast journalism program, is seen on cable throughout Orange County and took home a top award this year from the Broadcast Education Association. Tusk Magazine is written and produced each year by students. Student-produced Titan Radio is becoming more integrated into the Department’s curriculum and will introduce Spanish-language content in the near future. Event planning classes help run the Newport Beach Film Festival. Study abroad options, from two-week mini courses to semester-long programs, are helping our students become global communicators. Our student PRSSA chapter won a national award this year, and our Entertainment and Tourism Club took home top student club honors two years in a row on campus.

It’s an exciting time to study communications at Cal State Fullerton, and we are confident our future graduates will invoke the Titan Pride that is exemplified by the distinguished alumni found here.
